Art Impressions card

Happy Friday! This week I was playing with some of my Art Impression stamps and I made this card, very simple and easy to do, I love how it turned out. The sentiment is heat embossed with a deep purple embossing powder, it is from Altenew. With this card, you start by inking up your vine, any one of the AI stamps will do, ink it up and stamp 4 or 5 times, so you get a variety of colour, the same for the flowers and blend it out with a damp brush. It is very relaxing to do and you can't go wrong!!
There are a lot of different sets and you can easily substitute one stamp for another...or if you like them all, like me, well......
Hope you like it! Till next time, Anja

"Love Baseball" Kit

Good morning, everyone! Some of our customers have been asking for Blue Jays Kits. Since everything for the Blue Jays team is copyrighted, I had to come up with something of my own. I used Word Art from MS Word to make the circle "Let's Go Blue Jays" and then inserted the Maple Leaf Graphic. I printed this on Photo Paper.

Since I did not have any baseball paper in my stash, I decided to just use Cardstock on this layout (note the colours of the team) and then I went to my trusty Silhouette Machine and cut out the Double Hearts, the Baseball Player and Silhouette, and the Pocket. I punched out a circle and made it look like a baseball and then added some ribbon, buttons, and puffy stars.

It felt strange not to be using pattern paper in a layout, but sometimes you just have to be "creative"!!

Hope you like this kit.

Watercolor Frames

Good Morning Everyone,

Want to share with you another card I made using the Watercolor Frames by Altenew. This time I made a Christmas card. I used antique linen, worn lipstick, abandoned coral and peacock feathers distress oxides to stamp my wreath. The sentiment is from Kaisercraft called Sentiments-Traditional.
Of course I added some bling on the wreath and the bottom of my card.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Watercolouring with AI stamps!

Happy Friday! My card was supposed to show up early this morning, I must have done something wrong or Mr. Blogger did not agree with me, lol.
This card is watercoloured the Art Impressions way, with stamps and distress markers, a brush and water, LOVE doing this. After I stamped and coloured the cat, I cut it out and put it on the chair.
There are so many different sets and they all work together nicely. Did you know....there is new ones coming out too.....yup, I pre ordered them! As soon as the new ones are in, I will do a demo at Sheila's pop up store, stay tuned for that!
Happy Crafting! Till next time, Anja

Lilac Whisper Kits

Good morning, everyone! I have been working on a couple of kits for SGD using the paper line "Lilac Whisper" from Kaisercraft. I love the muted lilac and soft green colours of this line. Here are some of the products that I used in both kits.

The first kit is called "Cherish" and would be nice for Wedding photos or Vintage photos. I used the Tall Poppy Right Corner by Memory Box and the Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Ink. The packaging for the Stamp set is buried in my Craft Room and I am sorry that I can't remember it right now.

"Cherish" Kit

The colours of this kit are a soft green but it does not show up well here.

"Memories" Kit

For this kit, I did a lot of fussy cutting. I incorporated some butterflies (not shown) using the Memory Box "Devyn Butterfly Trio" and added some Carnation stamps from the Art Impression Watercolor EZ Project A. We just got a lot of these Art Impression stamps in and they are lovely. Check out the Online Store to see what is available. The stamped words are from 49 and Market called "Gabi's Word Clear Stamp".

Have a good week.

Pop Up Shops

Good Morning Everyone,

I want to share with you my two cards that are for the Make-N-Takes for this up coming Pop Up Shops. The first card is for this Thursday Sept 14. I used oxide distress inks and Tim Holtz's Wildflowers thinlit dies. I will show you the technique I used to do the background. The sentiment is from Hero Arts stamp set called Birthday Messages.

The second card is for Friday Sept 15. I used worn lipstick oxide ink for the background and to watercolour the flower. The sentiment is from Hero Arts called Birthday Messages.  I then used white Nuvo Crystals Drops for the centres of the flowers.

Hope you will join me.
Thanks for looking and have a great day.

New: Giraffing Me Crazy Class!

Happy Saturday, my crafty friends!

I wanted to share some pictures of the card we will be making in my upcoming class on Friday, September 15th at 6:30pm.

We'll be exploring watercolouring using the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons and making this cute card using the My Favorite Things "Giraffing Me Crazy" stamps set and dies! We'll also be using the fabulous My Favorite Things cloud stencil. This is my new favourite stencil - the clouds turn out so cute and fluffy!

I decided to do a tri-fold card to change it up a bit and I think it turned out pretty cute how the giraffes peek over the folds at each other.

This is a view of the inside of the card:

...and this is a view of the back:

I hope you can join me!

Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend!

September Calendar Class

Happy Labour Day! I hope that you have all had a good weekend and that everyone is ready for the big day tomorrow! It is Back to School time! I wanted to show you the layout that I have created for the next Calendar Class on Friday, September 29 at 10:30 a.m.

Last week, in the SGD blog, I talked about choosing papers when you are scrapbooking. To create the layout for this class, I picked up this American Crafts paper from Dear Lizzy called "Saturday". The numbers on the paper would go for the theme of "Back to School" but there were no more papers in this collection that continued with the theme. So next, I picked up these papers from Photo Play's "Like a Girl" collection. The colours matched with the colours on the first paper and I liked some of the different border strips.

To complete the main part of the layout, I chose this Doodlebug paper from the "Cream & Sugar" collection. The blue matched nicely with the blue on the "Number" paper and the pattern was small so it did not take away from the large numbers.

Lastly, I included some small strips from a couple of other papers that I had, to continue with the colour scheme. I included a small amount of the "Locker" paper because it went with the theme of the layout but some of the colours were not in the overall colour scheme so I did not give this paper prominence in the layout.

To colour the Chipboard Tabs and Stars, I used the colours seen below of the Distress Oxide Inks.

Here is the layout for the class.

Have a great week.

Nuvo Embellishment Mousse

Good Morning Everyone,

Want to share with you my card that I made with Nuvo Embellishment Mousse. I used the Mother of Pearl Mousse with a stencil from Altenw called Dahlia. The mousse spreads  like you would embossing paste or 3D paste. I stamped the word Celebrate from the Altenw stamp set called Super Script. There is also a die set that goes with it.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Techniques with Nuvo Embellishment Mousse

Happy Saturday, everyone!

This week I found myself surfing around YouTube watching a lot of mixed media videos. There are so many great ideas out there for all of the fabulous products available - sometimes I lose track of time and wham-o there go a couple of hours!

I have a few favourite Mixed Media artists that I follow and absolutely love seeing the things that Vicky Papaioannou creates!

I'd like to share a video from her YouTube channel on the Nuvo Embellishment Mousses. They are absolutely fabulous and Vicky shows you lots of different ways to use them - lots of techniques with stencils and even how to create your own glittery sprays!

Aren't these awesome? I think the Aquamarine is my favourite - I love all things teal! I can't wait to get playing with these and create some fun projects! Check out the SGD store - we have a great selection of colours available.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great long weekend!

Dinosaur Love

Happy Tuesday!!

I have a new Derwent Inktense Workshop coming up on Thursday, September 14th, at the Komoka Community Centre.  I coloured up two super cute dinosaurs from Whipper Snapper Designs.  My oldest son is obsessed with dinosaurs, even now when he is pushing 13...so I may still be a sucker for a cute dinosaur stamp.

Two cards that are perfect for the dinosaur lover in your life!

Some Scrapbooking Hints and a New Kit

Hello, everyone! Today, I wanted to share with you a new kit that I made for SGD and explain how I chose the papers, etc. Of course, when you are scrapbooking, it is very helpful to have a collection of papers in the same theme and colour. But that is not always possible. Here are some hints for when you are choosing your paper.

  • Theme: In some cases, you can choose your paper based on a theme: Holidays, Sports, School, etc. For this kit, I wanted to do a Beach Theme
  • Colours: To me, the beach is all about Blue (water) and Tan (sand)
  • Pattern: When choosing your papers, you want a Neutral (matting, titles, journaling); a Base (background paper (usually cardstock but could be a pattern paper); and Patterns (to create interest)
A few notes about choosing Pattern Paper:

  1. Try to mix Large and Small Scale prints. If all your papers have a large print, they will compete with each other and take away from your photos.
  2. Watch for the Density of the prints. If you look at my layout below, you will see that I use a dense pattern (Shells etc. on dark blue, Knots on dark blue) and I also used a less dense pattern (Anchors on white background)
  3. Try to only use odd numbers in your pattern papers. Here, I used seven different papers (I counted the mats as a paper)
Why this layout works:
  • I only had three papers from the Kaiser Craft collection "High Tide". "Mast" is the dark blue paper and the other side is the paper with Anchors.  "Overboard" is the dark blue paper with the Knots. The Sand coloured paper is called Sea Map. These papers work together because of theme, density and colour.
  • I used a paper from Maja Design Vintage Autumn Collection. The Blue stripe is very muted so it does not clash with any pattern and it works with the colours in the other papers.
  • I chose a Photo Play paper from the Lakeside Collection called Hidden Lakes. This plaid had green in it which did not appear in any of the other papers but I downplayed it by not using any other green in the layout.
  • Lastly, I chose white cardstock as my background (it goes with the Anchor on White paper and the Plaid paper). For the matting and title, I chose a Kraft paper to emulated the Sand Colour.
Usually,  I will only use three patterns in a layout but because I needed more papers to go with what I had in the High Tide collection. I added four more papers to keep with the odd number rule.

I hope you get some ideas for your own layouts and that you all have a great week.

Karen

Wildflowers #2

Good Morning Everyone,

I am a little late in posting this morning because I was making some stamps to use on my cards. I purchased the new die from Tim Holtz called Wildflowers #2. I did not get the stamp set, so I decided to make my own. I cut out the flower pieces with fun foam. Then I mounted them on a thicker foam. This helps to stamp with.
I found this technique and card idea here. I never thought to do a gesso wash over my distress oxide washes. I love the effect. Hope you will give it a try.

Off to play some more. Thanks for looking and have a great day.

You're Giraffing Me Crazy!

Hello, friends!

Hope you're all doing well and having a great start to your weekend!

This week, I've been playing around with the new Giraffing Me Crazy stamps and dies from My Favorite Things! I have to say, this company is appropriately named because they've certainly created some of my favourites! The stamp sets are just too cute - I need them all!

I'd like to share with you a couple of cards that I put together with this set. All of the giraffes were watercoloured with the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons. I love using these to do watercolouring - they give such a soft look.

The first card uses some paper from Doodlebug Design called "Jolly Giraffes" - it's part of their "At the Zoo" collection. For the background, I used some distress inks and used the new My Favorite Things Cloud stencil to do the sky. This was the first time that I had used the cloud stencil and I love it! It made layering clouds so easy with an ink blending tool! I can't wait to get the mini version as well!

On the second card, I used paper from Echo Park called "Silly Fox" (there are also some adorable foxes on the other side!) which is part of their "A Perfect Autumn" collection.

I can't wait to create more cards with this set. I'm in love with their sweet little faces! Stay tuned for details on an upcoming class!

Thanks for stopping by!

Flower lanterns

Happy Friday! Today the pop up store is set up at the community center in Komoka, stop by and say hello, we would love to see you!!
I will be there, teaching an Altenew class at 2PM....It has been a busy time at our house, our son got married and we had a lot of company from overseas. We had a great time, I truly enjoyed every minute of it...now we are slowly getting back in our normal routine and that means some crafting time for me!! This lovely lantern flower stamp is from Penny Black, I put it in the Misti and coloured it section by section with distress markers, so easy with the Misti. Last week, I picked up this corner die, it is a set of 4. They are from Kaiserkraft, cutout textures.
A bit of wink of stella on the flowers and a few golden dots, sentiment is from Altenew. For the background of the flowers, I have used a mini stencil from Tim Holtz and some spiced marmelade ink with a Clarity brush. So many fun tools!!

Kaisercraft "Factory 42" Collection and Kit

Good morning, everyone. Last week, I mentioned these new papers from Kaiser Craft called "Factory 42". This is a great collection for any masculine layouts or cards that you would like to do. Here is a photo of the papers included in the collection.

I used some of the brown papers in this kit which I called "dad". I had some chipboard gears which I coloured with the Creative Expressions Chocolate Bronze Gilding Polish and included some Tim Holtz metal gears on the layout as well. The Polish is hard to see in the layout but it gives a nice copper finish to the chipboard.

As always, I love the border strips that Kaiser Craft uses and thought that this strip "A Father's Love..." was so appropriate for the layout.

Here is the kit:

Have a great week!

Snowman and Art Journal

Good Morning Everyone,

I want to share with you my next 2 classes that I will be teaching at our next Pop Up Shop. This will be on Friday August the 25th. My first project will be my Make N Take card, this is a shaker card. I used a die from Creative Expressions called Snowman Snow Globe. There is a snow globe die to go with this die but I didn't use it. The sentiment is new from KaiserCraft called Sentiments Traditional.
The background designer paper is also just new from Crate Paper called Falala.

The second project I will be teaching is for Lori's and mine Art Journaling class. I used acrylic paints, dylusion paints and a lot of stencils. With the stencils I used the Distress Oxide Inks. You can't see the verse very well in the picture but it says: Art is not a measure of skill but of passion. Love it. Please register here for space is limited. You will need to bring your brushes, craft mat, make up sponge and blending tools.

Hope to see you this Friday. Thanks for looking and have a great day.

"Memories"

Good morning and Happy Monday! Today, I wanted to share with you a kit that I created using Kaisercraft's "Keepsake" Collection. I love the vintage look of the papers in this collection. I used some of the Word Strips from the bottom of the papers. Kaisercraft is so good at including these "words of wisdom" on their papers. I added some flowers from the Prima "Wild and Free" collection and a chipboard butterfly that I had in my stash. To give the butterfly a metallic finish, I covered it with Metallic Gilding Polish in Chocolate Bronze and added a couple of dots using Ranger's Enamel Accents. Have a look at the website to see the different colours of the Gilding Polish. They cover wood and chipboard and other surfaces, with a nice glittery finish. I can see more of these colours in my future!

I hope you like the kit. While I was at the Pop Up Store yesterday, I picked up some of Kaisercraft's new collection "Factory 42". You will love these papers if you need to create a masculine card or layout. Hopefully, I will have something ready for you next week.

Have a great week!

Watercolor Frames

Good Morning Everyone,

Want to share with you my card for this up coming Pop Up Shop this Friday August 18. This will be a Make-N-Take Card. I had a hard time coming up with a card using the Watercolor Frames stamp set from Altenew. I bought this stamp to use more with my Art Journaling but I thought the one stamp looked like a wreath. So I stamped the image 3 times with 3 distress oxide inks. I started with Vintage Photo then Fossilized Amber and then Faded Jeans. With the last 2 colours I just tapped in different areas I didn't cover the whole stamp. I stamped the sentiment with Faded Jeans. The background paper is from BoBunny called Serendipity Aviary. Love it. I then used some bling to put on my wreath because I didn't have the right colour of Nuvo Drops or Enamel Drops, go figure.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.
Hope to see you out on Aug 18.

Fun with Graphic 45 Nature Sketchbook Paper and Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes!

Happy Saturday!

Just wanted to share a little project that I've been working on this week.

A few weeks back, I picked up a few sheets of paper from Graphic 45's Nature Sketchbook collection just because it was so pretty! I love the bright colours, butterflies and flowers - I knew that there had to be a project idea in there somewhere...I just had to sit down and create!

I started out with an 8" x 10" wooden canvas and painted it with black gesso. I flipped the canvas over to use it as a shadow box and then cut out a frame from the collection's Every Blooming Thing paper which I adhered with distress collage medium.

Inside the frame, I used Season Splendor paper for the background and used a Tim Holtz honeycomb stencil and Stormy Sky Distress Ink to in two opposite corners to darken the paper in a couple of areas. I also inked around the edges of the background paper and then adhered it to the wood. I used the Monarch Majesty and Beautiful World papers and cut out the butterflies, sentiment, and the bottom border. To give the butterflies a bit of bling, I applied some Stickles.

Finally, I thought that the frame needed just a bit of antiquing, so I applied some Cosmic Shimmer Flake and Glitter Glue with my finger here and there and used the Cosmic Shimmer Egyptian Gold Gilding Flakes. I am always trying to find new creative ways to use these flakes and I think it just added a nice touch to the frame.

Thanks for stopping by!

Altenew card class

Happy Friday! Hope you are all enjoying the summer but also getting some crafty time!
On August 25, I will be teaching another Altenew class, you can find it HERE.
If I had to pick one stamp company, it would be Altenew, but it is a good thing I don't have to pick just one, lol.
Anyhow, we will be using different products, some new Oxide inks, stencils, clarity brushes...all the good stuff. I will post the second card next week.
Hope you will check it out! Till next time, Anja
